An Ecumenical Media Team has covered faith-based activities and issues at every international AIDS Conferences since 2004. And of course, much was said and shown about HIV long before then.

As so many here in Durban reflect on where we have come in the response since AIDS was first identified in 1981, we as communicators are also reflecting on how our words and images have changed, how the issues have sharpened – and why we need to keep speaking about, and showing the reality of, HIV and the response by the faith community.

In HIV, AIDS and faith in words and images, Callie Long writes about her own professional and personal journey covering the faith response to HIV with photos from Paul Jeffrey – whose strong images from AIDS 2016 in Durban continue to demonstrate the passion, compassion and action that is still critical to end the AIDS epidemic.
